Ladybug’s Sleepover

At Ladybug’s sleepover, cozy and snug,
six friends said, “Goodnight,” and curled up on the rug.

Grrr. Grr. Something growled. They all looked around.
Butterfly trembled. “What’s making that sound?”

Ant tugged at her blanket. “I bet it’s a bear
who’s looking for bugs to take back to his lair.

“Or maybe,” buzzed Bee, “it’s the g-g-g-growl
of one hungry lion on one hungry prowl!”

“Oh no!” Spider shivered. “What if it’s a boar
out hunting for insects. Please go lock the door!”

Something growled again. Grrr. Grrr. Grr! They all shook.
Then Ladybug said, “Firefly, help us look!

“Please turn on your light so it casts a soft glow.
Then we can all see what is scaring us so!”

Firefly didn’t answer—not even a peep.
Not one glow or wiggle for she was asleep!

Grrr! Grrr! Something growled once more in the night.
The friends looked around, then Bee said with delight:

“That grrr’s not a bear or a lion or boar.
It’s Firefly sleeping and—wow!—what a snore!”
