A splishy, splashy, rainy day,
Too wet to go outside and play.
No slides or swings, and can’t play ball.
This recess is no fun at all!
Miss Rosie says, “Now don’t be sad.
A rainy day is not so bad.”
She opens up the closet door,
And pulls down boxes to the floor.
Just look inside. Come on, dig in.
Grab cymbals, drums and violin.
Bright jingle bells for Beth to ring.
Jack can juggle, and Sam can sing.
This tambourine is so much fun.
There’s something here for everyone!
The swirly streamers swish and swoop.
Miss Rosie twirls a hula-hoop.
Above the noise there is a shout.
And suddenly—the lights go out!
The principal has just walked in.
He looks around and starts to grin.
“What’s going on? This looks like fun.
Can I join in? I’ll play the drum.”
He waves the drumsticks. “Follow me!
The other classes have to see.”
Throughout the school, we march and play.
The rain parade is on its way!
Now kindergarten joins the beat.
Then first and third grade stomp their feet.
Down the hall and through each room,
The leader’s drum goes boom, boom, boom!
When rainy recess is all done,
We clap and cheer for everyone.
