It's time to do some spring cleaning, decluttering, and clearing out all the junk you've accumulated in your house and your marriage.

Today’s Scripture

“But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth. Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator.” Colossians 3:8-10, ESV

Today’s Devotion

Step away from the empty butter tub. We know you’re keeping it around to store leftovers, but it’s time for spring cleaning, and that means getting rid of the clutter.

Apologies if you have a stack of empty butter tubs. We all pinch pennies one way or another. Sometimes, though, those penny-pinching good intentions pile up and turn into clutter. And the easiest way to deal with clutter is to get rid of it. That’s what spring cleaning is all about: getting rid of clutter, dust, crud, and all those “extras” that get in the way of a clean home.

While you’re decluttering your house, take time to think about decluttering your marriage. No, we’re not telling you to put your spouse on the curb or in the give-away pile. We’re challenging you and your spouse to look at your relationship – are there some habits, hang-ups, or bitter feelings that have built up over time? Colossians 3:8-10 reminds us to sort out and put away sins and selfish desires that keep you and your spouse at a distance. Yes, there may be some serious issues you should bring to a counselor (we encourage that), but we’re talking about the day-to-day things that build up over time – like empty butter tubs – that you and your spouse can agree to forgive and let go. It’s time to clear away the clutter in your marriage.

Today’s Prayer

Heavenly Father, point out the clutter in our relationship and give us the courage to let go of those little things that get in the way of our marriage. Amen.
